Timothy Max is a composer of sacred and modern music, writing for choir, orchestra, organ, and piano. He has created numerous arrangements of Latter-day Saint hymns, many of which are available on the Church’s official website.

Music has provided Tim with many unique opportunities. In the early 2000s, he performed and recorded extensively with the Millennium Choir, a semi-professional ensemble directed by Hollywood composer Lex de Azevedo.

During his undergraduate studies, Tim participated in numerous school and university tours across the United States, as well as international tours to China and Mongolia. Through these experiences, he developed lasting friendships in China and later spent a year teaching English to more than 200 college-age students in the rural city of Huaibei, Anhui.

Tim later earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music from Brigham Young University–Hawaii, where he studied with composer Dr. Daniel Bradshaw. While at BYU–Hawaii, he frequently arranged and performed music for concerts and devotionals and participated in several university ensembles. Choirs at BYU–Hawaii have premiered multiple works of his both at home and abroad.

In 2025, Tim’s composition Ubi Caritas was awarded the Grand Prize in the Beethoven International Music Competition (UK). That same year, his oratorio Yet Shall He Live was completed after a year of full-time composition—a sacred work he hopes will endure for years to come.

Tim has also received multiple awards through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ recurring music submission competition. His works have been performed in General Conference, as well as in international devotional and fireside broadcasts.

Tim currently resides in Houston, Texas. He has served in the Music Department at Lone Star College–Kingwood, as Executive Assistant to the Lake Houston Musical Arts Society, and as Executive Director of the Houston Masterworks Chorus.
